70’s Organic Architecture; Sand Dollar House

Built in 1979, the two-storey house maximises the view from a wooded bluff beside the Colorado River, above Lake Travis. Listing agency Estately describes the house as a “living sculpture – a view sanctuary for those seeking solitude and beauty”.

‘Holes’ in the structure allow light to pass through, enhancing the organic form of the house.

It has a strong, organic form – there’s scarcely a right-angle in the house. The roof is round, the walls are curved, and even the balconies pop out like fan shells.

This room forms a pod that pops out from the house to provide a close connection with the landscape.
